War & Armed Conflict Cover for Australian Travellers
War and armed conflict are not normally covered by travel insurance. Go Insurance Australian travel insurance includes limited medical-related cover automatically if you are unexpectedly affected while already overseas, with an optional disruption upgrade — added during the quote process at goinsurance.com.au — for extra travel and accommodation costs if your trip is disrupted.
Cover is subject to the PDS, including its limits, conditions and exclusions. The optional disruption cover must be selected at time of purchase and shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
How This Cover Works During Your Trip
Limited Protection for Unexpected Conflict Events
This cover provides limited protection if, during your trip, you are unexpectedly affected by war or armed conflict while staying in or travelling through an affected area.
It does not create broad war cover. It only applies in the limited circumstances set out here, and the rest of your policy terms, conditions, exclusions and claims conditions still apply.
What’s Included at No Extra Cost
Included automatically for eligible claims if the cover conditions are met.
What Automatic Cover Does Not Include
These are only available where noted under the optional disruption cover, or not at all.
Optional Disruption Cover
For an additional premium, this optional upgrade can help with extra travel and accommodation costs if your trip is disrupted after it has started.
It is designed for unexpected events that happen during your journey, not before departure.
It must be selected during the quote process, the additional premium must be paid, and it must appear on your Certificate of Insurance.

Keeping Expectations Realistic
How This Cover Might Respond
You are already overseas when a new and unexpected outbreak of conflict affects a place you are visiting or travelling through. Flights are disrupted and you need to arrange alternative transport and accommodation.
The automatically included cover may respond to eligible medical or serious outcomes if you are directly affected. If you selected the optional disruption cover, reasonable additional travel and accommodation costs may also be covered, subject to the policy terms, limits, and any available refunds or credits.
This Is Limited Cover Only
It does not provide broad or open-ended war cover.
It is designed to offer limited support for certain eligible medical events, plus optional disruption cover for additional travel and accommodation costs during your trip if you have selected it.
It helps set clear expectations about what may be covered during your trip — and what is not included. For full details, read the PDS before you buy.
War & Armed Conflict Cover — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything Australian travellers commonly ask about war and armed conflict cover with Go Insurance.
Is any war or armed conflict cover included automatically?
Yes. Go Insurance Australian travel insurance includes limited protection for eligible medical expenses and serious outcomes if you are unexpectedly affected by war or armed conflict while overseas. It applies only if the cover conditions are met, and it is not full or comprehensive war cover.
What does the optional disruption cover add?
The optional disruption cover helps with additional travel and accommodation costs if your trip is disrupted after it has started — up to $250 per day and $2,000 in total for accommodation, up to $3,000 for travel and transport, and up to $5,000 per person overall, less any refunds or credits. It must be selected during the quote process and shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
When does war and armed conflict cover apply?
This cover only applies if you have already started your trip, the event is new and unexpected, and you are in, or travelling through, the affected area. The location must not have been subject to an Australian or New Zealand Government “Do Not Travel” warning before you travelled there.
Does this cover trip cancellation before I travel?
No. This cover does not apply before departure. It only applies to unexpected events that happen during your trip, after you have left Australia.
Can I add this cover after my trip has already started?
No. The optional disruption cover must be selected before departure, with the additional premium paid, and shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
What if I need to change my plans because of a conflict?
If you have selected the optional disruption cover, it may help with reasonable additional travel and accommodation costs — including rerouting your journey or returning home early if necessary. It does not cover unused or non-refundable bookings.
Am I covered if I just feel unsafe travelling?
No. This cover only applies where there is a specific war or armed conflict event that disrupts your trip. It does not apply based on general concern or precaution alone.
What happens if I get a refund from my airline or hotel?
Any refunds, credits or reimbursements are taken into account — we cover your remaining reasonable out-of-pocket costs only. Keep all receipts and refund correspondence; you’ll need them when you lodge a claim with our claims team.
